— About

About Us

Mycelium materials are new materials that are produced from the building blocks of mushrooms. Pure mycelium materials (PMM) are extremely functional materials that can be processed into leather or thread-like material that are natively biodegradable.

Innovation Rooted in Nature

Not just a leather alternative — a brand-new category of material, grown from local agriculture and engineered for industry.

Mission

Our Mission

We're a Kentucky-based startup on a mission to develop sustainable materials through advanced technology inspired by local agriculture.

Challenge

Industry Challenge

The fashion and textile industries take a heavy toll on our planet. This outdated system isn't sustainable and it's time for a change.

Solution

Our Solution

AXIS combines advanced technology with local agriculture to create entirely new materials, not just alternatives.

Impact

Our Impact

We're creating high-performance, biodegradable materials while supporting local agriculture and green jobs in Kentucky.

— Environmental Impact

Sustainability

Mycelium is a highly sustainable material that utilizes agricultural waste and fermentation technology to create valuable products. It is extremely resource-efficient, requiring minimal water and energy, and is fully biodegradable, leaving no harmful waste behind. Additionally, mycelium supports localized production, reducing transportation emissions and promoting regional self-sufficiency.

— Why Kentucky

Built in the Bluegrass

AXIS is proudly rooted in Kentucky. Our materials start with the Commonwealth's greatest strength — its agriculture — and grow from there.

Grown from local agriculture

We turn Kentucky agricultural by-products, including sugars from locally grown corn, into the feedstock our mycelium grows on.

A University of Kentucky partnership

We develop and characterize our pure mycelium materials alongside researchers at UK's Martin-Gatton College of Agriculture, Food & Environment.

Central to the country

70% of the U.S. population is within a one-day drive, backed by infrastructure built for distribution and logistics.

Keeping talent home

We're creating high-quality, innovation-driven jobs to diversify Kentucky's economy and retain its best and brightest.
